Detail information

CISBAT will be hosted as a hybrid conference by EPFL and Smart Living Lab on the EPFL campus in Lausanne. The EPFL campus is located just outside the city of Lausanne in Switzerland, on the shores of Lake Geneva and at the foot of the Alps.

Participants at several flight hours from Switzerland or with a very busy schedule are encouraged to attend the conference virtually. The hybrid platform and direct connections will allow active participation and easy networking.

Travel to and within Lausanne

Geneva-Cointrin is the nearest airport (45' by train), but there are also good connections to Zurich Unique Airport (2h30) and a direct fast train connection from Paris (TGV, approx. 4h). Visit the Swiss Rail website for trip planning (including local transport lines).

We warmly recommend rail travel to all participants from Europe to keep CO2 emissions down. Prices are competitive for early bookers and time taken often less long than expected. Check out Trainline for tickets and information!

All recommended hotels are close to public transport. Hotel guests receive free travel cards for Lausanne buses and metro on their arrival (line map). The city center of Lausanne is a short distance from the train station: 2 minutes by metro or 10-15 minutes (uphill) by foot. The main metro stop for the city center is Lausanne-Flon, where the m1 and m2 metro lines intersect. Lausanne lakeside (Ouchy) can be reached from the railway station by metro m1 direction "Ouchy" in 5 minutes.
Taxis / Public transport

From your hotel/the railway station to EPFL / CISBAT 2023

The EPFL campus (campus map) is located 6 km west of Lausanne and is accessed most easily by metro. Parking is expensive and scarce; if possible leave your car at the hotel or at one of the Lausanne long-term car parks. One day at EPFL will cost about CHF 17.-.

Public transport (line map): From railway station >> metro line m2 to Lausanne-Flon (direction Croisettes, 2'), >> metro line m1 (direction Renens, 12' from "Flon" to stop "EPFL") >> walk to conference venue (signposted, 5').

NB: Tickets for the bus and metro lines in Lausanne should be purchased prior to boarding, from machines located at each bus/metro stop (make sure to have coins, as bills or credit cards are often not accepted). A single ticket costs CHF 3.50 for zones 11-12 (to reach EPFL from the city) and will be valid for 1 hour (from the time of purchase) of unlimited travel on any method of transport (bus, metro, local train) within the zone. A short trip within these zones (up to 3 stops, valid 30') costs CHF 1.90. Note that most hotels provide free day passes to their guests.

By car: Motorway N1 >> direction Lausanne-Sud >> exit "Sortie UNIL-EPFL". The lake will be on your left. At the second roundabout, after a few hundred meters, enter the EPFL campus on your right.

Parking on campus is paying and as there are very few public spaces available, we strongly recommend that you use public transport. Parking zones are indicated on the campus map. Pricing on the campus is as follows: CHF 1 for the first hour and CHF 2 for every following hour from 8am to 5pm (CHF 17 maximum per day). Exception: Parking next to "Atrium" / "STCC Swiss Tech Convention Center": this is considerably more expensive (STCC car park).

Other long term parking possibilities in Lausanne, see official website (in French, CHF 8.- per day for each calendar day).
