VENUE

The first two days of CISBAT 2023 will take place in the Swiss Tech Convention Center on the campus of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) just outside Lausanne, Switzerland. The lively city of Lausanne is located on the shores of Lake Geneva and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains as well as numerous cultural treasures.

The nearby city of Fribourg will host the third conference day, with a dynamic program of workshops and visits. Fribourg, with its old town nested high above the river Sarine, is just a 45' train ride from Lausanne.

The combined campuses of EPFL and Lausanne University attract more than 29'000 students from all over the world. With 125 nationalities and 50% of professors from abroad, EPFL is one of the world's most cosmopolitan university campuses.

On the campus, which received the 1st ISCN Sustainable Campus Award in 2009 and has continued to innovate in this field ever since, architecturally interested visitors will find the Rolex Learning Center of the Japanese architectural practice SANAA, a prime example of innovative emotional architecture, the new ArtLab as well as other highly interesting buildings of a constantly evolving campus. CISBAT 2023 will take place in the modern and easily accessible facilities of the Swiss Tech Convention Center.


EPFL Campus Fribourg - Smart Living Lab

Close to Fribourg railway station, Bluefactory -- a former industrial area of the Cardinal brewery -- is now an innovation district that is becoming a catalyst of progress and research in sustainability. This is where the Smart Living Lab, the host of CISBAT 2023, is housed and currently constructing a new building, implementing the latest research combined with facilities that will allow real-size experimentation.
The Smart Living Lab is a research and development center for the future of the built environment whose aim is to achieve energy efficiency, reduce environmental footprint and improve user well-being making use of the digital transformation. It brings together the combined expertise of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), the School of Engineering and Architecture of Fribourg (HEIA-FR), and the University of Fribourg (UNIFR) in research areas such as construction technologies, well-being and behaviors, interactions and design processes, and energy systems.
