Lausanne lies in the French speaking part of Switzerland and is the capital of the canton of Vaud. The city is situated on the shores of Lake Geneva, at the foot of the Alps and not far from the Jura mountains. Located 62 km northeast of Geneva, Lausanne faces the French town of Evian-les-Bains.
Lausanne usually shows the best of its beautiful landscapes on clear September days. From the EPFL campus, you may walk along Lake Geneva for hours, enjoying lake and mountain views, and maybe have a coffee in one of many cafes in Lausanne-Ouchy. Or you might want to stroll through the old city and climb the wooden steps up to the cathedral, maybe do some shopping. Close to the railway station, there is a cluster of art museums on the brand new Platform 10. And if you're interested in sports, do not miss the spectacular Olympic Museum!
If possible, stay over the weekend and enjoy the large cultural offer of the city or take a train through the vineyards to the nearby Alps, to the Swiss Capital Bern or to Geneva. Nested between mountains at one hour from Lausanne, in Lavey-les-Bains, you will also find a beautiful hot spa, ideal to relax between the hectic schedule of travelling and work.
